| | Hello there. USPS wants your shipping costs to move every week, Shopify reminded developers that every storefront already speaks to browser agents, and merchants are asking what record BFCM revenue really leaves behind. Pour a coffee, this one is about the numbers under the numbers. In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into: - USPS plans a domestic fuel surcharge from January 2027 that changes weekly, announced only three to five days ahead, with no starting rates or caps disclosed yet.
- Shopify's WebMCP tools are live on every Liquid storefront and supported Hydrogen stores, letting browser agents search, fill carts and reach checkout for the shopper.
- Merchants are asking which BFCM numbers matter after the rush, how to count the full cost of a return and how to sell multipacks with subscriptions.

| | 📮 USPS shipping costs could change every week. From January 2027, USPS plans a domestic fuel surcharge that tracks diesel and jet fuel prices and resets weekly, replacing the temporary 8% surcharge that ends January 17. Each rate is announced only three to five days ahead, and no starting rates or caps are public yet. If you offer free or flat-rate shipping, the Shopifreaks breakdown of the surcharge is worth reading now. 📉 Record BFCM revenue is not the same as profit. A merchant on Reddit calls BFCM a margin stress test: orders and average order value jump, but ads cost more, discounts run deeper and the 3PL charges to pick more items per box. Their answer is bundles over another blanket 10% off, while admitting no app fixes bad unit economics. The BFCM margin thread asks whether you judge the weekend on contribution margin, profit, new customers or stock moved. ↩️ What does a return really cost you? Shopify shows the refund clearly, but not the shipping you already paid, the payment fee, the cost of handling the return or stock that cannot be sold again. A Reddit thread asks merchants with high return rates, fashion for example, whether they track this in a spreadsheet, an app or by estimate, and whether their payment provider refunds the fee. Add your method to the return costs discussion. 🚩 Three fraud warnings on the same sticker. A small artist shop received three orders flagged as high fraud risk, all for one specific sticker design. The first was fulfilled and came back as return to sender, with no reply from the buyer's email, the second is in transit and the third arrived half an hour before the post. If you have seen this pattern, help the artist read the warnings before they ship again. | |

| | 🤖 Your store already has tools for AI shoppers. ShopifyDevs reintroduced its WebMCP tools, which let browser agents search your catalog, manage the cart, move into checkout and complete it once the buyer approves, with no merchant setup. They run on every Liquid storefront and on Hydrogen 2026-10 stores, though agent support is limited to Chromium browsers for now. The WebMCP tools documentation lists every tool. 💬 Your own AI assistant, or bet on ChatGPT? A merchant wonders whether shoppers who already ask ChatGPT and similar assistants what to buy will bother with a chat assistant on your own site. The alternative is to put the effort into making products and policies easy for outside AI tools to understand, or to do both. The AI assistant thread wants results from stores that already run one. 🏷️ Compare-at prices work on bundles after all. A merchant using the Shopify Bundles app could not find where to show a crossed-out price on a discounted bundle. The fix: open the bundle from Products, not Inventory, where bundles do not appear. For bundles with variants, click each variant, add a Compare-at price under Price and save. The bundle pricing answer has screenshots for each step. | |

| | 📦 Multipacks and subscriptions from one stock count. A one-product store sells 3, 5 and 12 packs built with Shopify Bundles, but those bundles do not work with its subscription app. The goal is separate pack pages with Subscribe and Save, one shared selector, quantity discounts and stock drawn from single units for one-off and subscription orders. If you have solved this, suggest a multipack setup in the thread. 📏 Product weight or package weight? A new seller shipping in bubble mailers is confused by Shopify's shipping fields: the package used when an item ships alone, the packed product size and the weight. The bigger question is why Shopify wants mailer dimensions included when an order with several items might need a larger mailer or a box. New stores with the same doubt can follow the packaging question. 🔎 Apps showing up in admin search. Searching a SKU in the Shopify admin now also returns app suggestions. Community replies say there is no documented way to turn them off, but clicking the Products filter at the top narrows results, and the search field on the Products page skips the apps. The admin search thread suggests reporting the clutter to Support if it gets in your way. | |
