Hello there. Meta plans to switch on in-app product browsing in your existing Facebook and Instagram ads unless you opt out, AI shopping agents keep growing while most stores still block them at checkout, and a community guide walks through why metafield filters go missing. A useful Sunday to check your ad settings.

In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into:

  • Meta will turn on product browsing in existing Facebook and Instagram ads on October 28 unless advertisers opt out.
  • Purchases through AI agents are growing about 43% a month, yet only 3% of retailers in one study let agents check out.
  • A three-step check helps you find out why a saved metafield value is missing from a collection filter.

SELL & CONVERT

📲 Meta will add in-app product browsing to your ads on October 28. Meta is telling advertisers it will switch on product browsing in existing Facebook and Instagram ads on October 28 unless they opt out. A tap then opens a full-screen catalog inside the app, and shoppers need a second tap to reach your store. Meta cites a 3% average conversion lift from an August test. You can opt out via the notice or per ad in Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings.

🤖 AI agents are buying more, but few stores let them check out. Purchases through agents such as Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots are growing about 43% a month and are up roughly fourfold since April, citing The Wall Street Journal. Yet only 3% of the online retailers BrightEdge serves let agents finish a checkout. Amazon blocks outside agents and Target only admits approved ones, while Walmart partnered with OpenAI and Google. Letting agents in brings payment authorization and return risks.

🚪 Visitors bounce from the homepage before scrolling. A new store owner says shoppers land only on the homepage and leave without scrolling, with a very high bounce rate and no first sale yet. They wonder whether a small inventory can still convert the few visitors they get, and have shared the store for feedback. If you have turned a quiet homepage into first orders, the thread is open for suggestions.

MONEY & OPS

🎁 Can POS exchanges stay private from the gift giver? A neighborhood gift shop often exchanges presents for people who do not want the original buyer to know. Until this week, staff say, an exchange on Shopify POS did not necessarily notify the original purchaser, and they are asking how to keep it that way. Worth checking your own POS exchange and notification settings before the holiday return season.

📦 Five things to check before picking an overseas warehouse. For sellers shipping furniture, fitness gear or other bulky items into the US and Europe, a forwarder shared a five-point warehouse checklist: customs handling done for you, proper last-mile and white-glove delivery, a warehouse system you can query yourself, every fee quoted up front and facilities close to your main sales regions. Note the author works with one such warehouse.

STORE & TOOLS

🔎 Metafield value missing from your collection filter? A community guide suggests three checks before you change any data. First confirm the metafield definition is selected under Search & Discovery filters and that your theme supports filtering. Then check the limits: a storefront filter shows at most 100 values, and collections over 5,000 products show no filters. Finally, test the value directly with a filter URL parameter on the collection page.

📅 Free in-store appointments that feed Klaviyo. A Shopify and Klaviyo merchant wants free 20-minute in-store appointments, one person per slot, booked inline on a page with no add to cart or checkout. Every booking needs to send Klaviyo an event with the email, name and appointment time, ideally including reschedules and cancellations. If you have built something similar, the thread is asking which apps manage it.
