Hello there. Meta's updated business terms let it crawl the site linked to your ad account from October 30, a POS app developer is chasing automatic discounts that land more than once, and a community guide shows how to set up buy 3, get 1 free without confusing shoppers. A good Monday to check your settings before the holiday push.

In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into:

  • From October 30, Meta's commercial terms let it crawl websites linked to business accounts and use the content to train its products.
  • An app developer reports that the latest POS version applies automatic discounts to line items more than once.
  • Shopify's native Buy X get Y discount can run buy 3, get 1 free, but the shopper still has to add the free item.

SELL & CONVERT

🕷️ Meta's new terms let it crawl the store linked to your ad account. Meta's updated commercial terms take effect on October 30 and let it crawl websites linked to any business account and use that content to develop and train its products. The only opt-out is to stop using Meta's business tools. Meta says it is consolidating older wording and that robots.txt can still block its crawlers, so check that file if you care how your product copy gets reused.

🔗 Google moves links higher in AI answers, but you still cannot see the clicks. Google is changing AI Mode and AI Overviews so that links inside answers appear more often and nearer the top. It is also testing a box that features a task's official site and adding thumbnails to related links. The catch for store owners: the Search Console reports for AI features count impressions only, and Google has not promised clicks or a date for more metrics.

🎁 Buy 3, get 1 free works natively, but the shopper adds the gift. A community guide walks through a buy 3, get 1 free setup with Shopify's own Buy X get Y discount: an automatic discount, a minimum of three qualifying items, one reward item set to free and a cap on uses per order. The reward is not added to the cart for the customer, and if both sides use the same collection, Shopify makes the cheaper item free. Word your promo to match.

🧮 One discount for the whole store can cost you on some products. A Black Friday post on r/shopify_growth points out that a single sitewide discount ignores product margins. One bestseller may be fine at 40% off while another loses money on every order at 20%. The poster is promoting a report they built, but the check itself is free: run your margin per product against the discount you plan before the sale goes live.

MONEY & OPS

📦 How often should supplier stock sync to your store? A dropshipper who syncs supplier stock every four hours asked how others stop orders for items that sold out between syncs. Replies suggest a buffer based on how fast each item sells, more frequent syncs for top sellers and turning off Continue selling when out of stock. Another merchant says bad supplier rows, like duplicate or mismatched SKUs, cause more oversells than timing does.

💳 eBay is banning gift card sales in Australia, and a US ban may follow. If you also sell on eBay, note that it will ban all gift card sales in Australia from November 12, citing fraud and misuse. The ban covers digital codes, prepaid gaming cards, store credit and even empty collectible cards. A seller email posted on Reddit points to a similar US ban on November 16, which eBay has not confirmed.

🇸🇪 Is Shopify Shipping available in Sweden? A Sweden-based merchant read Shopify's shipping services article as covering the EU but cannot get Shopify Shipping working for their store, and asked whether it only applies to certain European countries. The question is still open on r/shopify. For context, Shopify's changelog added label buying for stores in the Netherlands and Poland on October 16.

🧾 Charged after a trial and cannot find the cancel button. A new user on r/shopify says they were charged $39.99 after a free trial and could not find any way to cancel the subscription, even though the account shows no active plan. It is a useful reminder to check which store a plan is attached to and to look at your billing before a trial ends.

STORE & TOOLS

🏷️ POS users report automatic discounts applying more than once. An app developer says user reports and their own tests show the latest POS version applying automatic discounts to line items multiple times, even though the discount should apply once per order. A reply suggests retesting the same product and discount in a fresh cart with the app's cart rebuild switched off, then checking which POS app version is running. If you sell in person, ring up a test order before the weekend.

🪪 Admin still says My Store 2? That is your account name. A new merchant could not rename the label in the bottom left corner of the admin. The fix: that box shows your personal account name, not the store name, so change it under Manage account, then Personal details. The store name itself lives in Settings, Store details, and header text usually comes from the theme editor.

🛑 App developers say the Sidekick safety scan blocks unchanged releases. A developer reports that Shopify's LLM-based safety scan keeps blocking a Sidekick extension that has not changed since June 27, on production releases in September and October, with no reason given. Identical versions pass in between. Shopify staff say the feedback has been forwarded. If an app you rely on ships an update late, a blocked scan may be the cause.
