The Shopifist

Hello there. If you sell abroad through Managed Markets, Shopify can now set your international shipping rates and cover later label adjustments for you. Also today: how merchants are stress-testing checkout extensions a month before Black Friday, a PayPal payout hold that has run since September and an ID check that will not let go.

In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into:

  • Managed Markets can now set Standard and Express shipping rates per country and protect qualifying FedEx and DHL Express labels from later carrier charges.
  • With BFCM a month away, merchants say slow third-party calls inside checkout extensions, not image sizes, are what break stores under load.
  • One US store says 27 PayPal orders worth about $4,700 have been held since Sep 23, with a support ticket unanswered for 12 days.

SHIPPED

🌍 Managed Markets can now run your international shipping rates. Managed Markets now sets Standard and Express rates for each destination, folds part of the shipping cost into duty-inclusive product prices and charges the rest at checkout. Buy qualifying prepaid FedEx or DHL Express labels through it and you will not be billed for later carrier adjustments. You cannot edit those rates yourself, but you can switch it off per market, so review the Managed Markets shipping change before peak season.

SELL & CONVERT

🧪 Load-test your checkout extensions before Black Friday. Merchants and developers in two threads agree the weak spot at peak traffic is usually a checkout extension calling an outside API, which can add 200 to 400 ms per request. Their checklist: add timeouts to every fetch call, load-test the backend those calls hit, test discount Functions with every live campaign combination and check the B2B draft order path too. Compare BFCM prep notes with the community before the code freeze.

🏬 Automated discounts on POS Lite. A shop owner whose in-person store brings in most of the sales runs POS Lite because £69 a month for POS Pro is hard to justify, and is weighing a free trial to get through Christmas. The open question is how automated discounts behave on Lite, so if you run a similar setup, share how discounts work on POS Lite in the thread.

🇮🇳 If Shop Pay comes to India, addresses may be the hard part. With Shop Pay reportedly heading to India by Q1 2027, one merchant argues that one-tap checkout matters less than two boring details: messy Indian addresses built on landmarks and wrong pincodes, and smooth UPI payments. If you sell into India, weigh in on Shop Pay in India and what your checkout needs.

MONEY & OPS

⏸️ PayPal payouts held for a month with no answer. A US cycling saddle store says every order paid with PayPal Wallet through the Shopify integration since Sep 23 has been held: 27 orders and about $4,700, while card payouts arrive normally. A ticket opened on Oct 12 has had no reply. Replies suggest adding order numbers and amounts to the same ticket and checking payout settings for a reserve notice. Read the PayPal payout thread if your PayPal balance looks stuck.

🪪 A Shopify Payments ID check that will not clear. One week after being verified, a US merchant was asked to verify their identity again, sent every document requested and still has the ID rejected. The promised five-day review has passed without a real answer from chat, email or social support. Follow the verification loop thread if Shopify Payments asks you to re-verify in the middle of a sales run.

🧾 A free helper for California quarterly sales tax returns. A merchant built a small tool that works out the figures for a California quarterly sales tax return from basic Shopify reports, with no paid tax service. If you file in California, try the California sales tax tool and check the numbers against your own reports.

🔐 Shop MCP sign-in fails before the consent screen. A developer adding Shop MCP so customers can link their Shop account reports that the authorization flow sends back access_denied before any consent screen appears. If you are building agent features on Shop, follow the Shop MCP OAuth thread on the developer forum.
