| | Hello there. A quiet weekend for Shopify releases, so today is about the paperwork and plumbing behind cross-border selling. A Canadian merchant explains how losing contracted Canada Post rates is costing sales, and Shopify's guide to the EUR.1 certificate shows when EU shipments can pay less duty. Plus two checkout gaps worth knowing before you build deposits or rely on abandoned cart emails. In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into: - A Manitoba seller says that since the de minimis changes, contracted Canada Post rates no longer work for US orders in Shopify, even with Zonos.
- Shopify's new EUR.1 guide explains how the certificate can cut EU import duty, and why goods made in the US generally do not qualify.
- Deposit and pre-order selling plans only show a payment section with Shopify Payments, PayPal Express, Adyen or Stripe, which blocks testing in some countries.

| | 🇨🇦 Canadian sellers are stuck with pricier US shipping. A Manitoba shop selling books and paper goods says that since the de minimis changes, its contracted Canada Post rates no longer work for US shipments through Shopify, even with a Zonos account. The fallback Shopify rates are scaring off buyers, single labels from Canada Post are too slow at their volume, and Chit Chats is not available in Manitoba. If you have a workaround, share it in the Canada to US shipping thread. 📄 When an EUR.1 certificate can cut your EU duty bill. Shopify's new guide explains the EUR.1 movement certificate, the document customs uses to check that goods meet the rules of origin in an EU trade agreement and so qualify for a lower or waived duty. Without it, the standard rate applies. Goods made in the US generally do not qualify because there is no US-EU free trade agreement, though production in a partner country might. Read the EUR.1 certificate guide for the application steps. | |

| | 💳 Deposit checkouts need a supported payment gateway. A developer building made-to-order deposits with pre-order selling plans found that checkout shows the deposit and the later balance, but no payment section when only the test gateway is active. Shopify's docs say these plans need Shopify Payments, PayPal Express, Adyen or Stripe, which partners in countries without Shopify Payments cannot set up on a dev store. Follow the deposit testing thread if you plan to offer pre-orders. 🛒 Abandoned cart emails drop your line item details. A kitchen hood seller passes 30 to 50 product configurations per item as line item properties through a custom app. Those details show up fine in abandoned checkout emails, but the same Liquid does not bring them into the abandoned cart email. If you sell configurable products, check the abandoned cart properties thread before you count on cart reminders to show the full build. | |
