| | Hello there. Shopify spent Tuesday on two fronts. Merchants in the US and Canada get translations that keep themselves current, while app developers got firm dates for the offline token switch, which will reach your admin if your apps miss it. Meanwhile PayPal posted a sleepy checkout quarter and merchants traded notes on payment holds and fraud flags. In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into: - Translate & Adapt can now auto-sync translations every week and handles up to 8 languages instead of 2, for US and Canadian merchants.
- Public apps must move to expiring offline tokens by January 1, 2027, or get delisted; merchants see admin warnings from January 15.
- PayPal's online branded checkout grew just 1% last quarter while its buy now, pay later volume climbed 25%.

| | 🌐 Translations that keep up with your edits. US and Canadian merchants can now switch on Auto-sync in Translate & Adapt, so new and edited content gets translated automatically each week instead of going stale. Shopify also raised the number of languages it translates for you from 2 to 8, and manual translations are never overwritten. Auto-sync is off by default, so turn it on per language in the app. 🔐 Your apps have a January token deadline. Public apps that call the Admin API must switch to expiring offline access tokens by January 1, 2027, or they get delisted and blocked from new installs. From January 15, merchants using an unmigrated app see a warning in the admin, and from April 1 its old tokens stop working. The security update for app developers also adds IP allowlists and a security hub. 🛍️ Non-Shopify brands join the Catalog API. Apps using the beta Catalog API can now return products from brands that do not sell on Shopify, right next to merchant products. Those external items cannot use Shopify checkout and earn no Promoted Placements commission, and for now they only show for shoppers in the United States. If AI shopping matters to you, see how external products are handled in search results. | |

| | 🛒 Is selling directly in Shop worth switching on? One merchant had resisted the Shop app, then noticed a good review score there and a handful of sales Shopify attributes to Shop. They have already dressed up their Shop store with collection cards and a nicer header image, and now ask whether to keep going with Sell directly in Shop. The Shop app discussion is a useful sounding board before holiday traffic. 📺 Google & YouTube only syncs your General shipping profile. A merchant whose products all sit in custom shipping profiles found the Google & YouTube app only syncs the General profile. They built label-based shipping policies in Merchant Center instead and deleted the 99 API shipping policies the app had created. If your Google listings show odd shipping costs, compare notes in the shipping profile thread and check Merchant Center. | |

| | 💳 PayPal's checkout barely grew last quarter. PayPal raised its full-year profit forecast, but revenue rose just 2% to $8.58 billion and online branded checkout, its core business, grew only 1% excluding currency swings. Buy now, pay later volume climbed 25%, and more than 2,000 jobs have been cut so far. Shopifreaks has the full PayPal quarter if you are weighing which wallets to push. 🚫 PayPal Wallet blocked even after verification. A merchant's built-in PayPal Wallet under Shopify Payments shows as unavailable at checkout, even though card payments work and the identity check reads Done. Turning the wallet off and on did nothing. A Shopify Partner in the PayPal Wallet thread suggests asking Shopify Support whether the hold needs manual escalation to PayPal's compliance team. 🕵️ A cancelled fraud order came back as low risk. A small leather brand cancelled a roughly $250 order to Mexico that Shopify flagged as medium risk, partly because the card was linked to other fraudulent orders. Minutes later the customer reordered with the same card, and the new order showed low risk with Shopify Protect active. The fraud reorder story is a reminder to read the risk indicators, not just the label. 🇩🇪 Keeping Klarna when payments move to a US entity. A store selling in euros to Germany and Austria, at about 90 orders a day, runs Shopify Payments on an EU entity and takes about 40% of payments through Klarna and other local methods. They are now asking how a US LLC can keep Klarna at checkout. If you sell into the DACH region, the Klarna question is worth following. ⏳ Payouts on hold for more than two months. A merchant says Shopify Payments payouts have been frozen for over two months despite completed ID verification, and support keeps telling them to wait for the risk team's email. They are asking how to reach that team directly. If a payout hold hits you before Black Friday, the frozen payouts thread shows how others are escalating. | |

| | 📦 Purchase orders are still read-only in the API. A merchant whose supplier orders are generated automatically still has to retype every line into the Shopify admin, because the Purchase Orders API cannot create or update anything. The purchase order API request asks for mutations to create, update, mark as ordered and receive purchase orders. Add your vote if you run inventory through an outside system. 🧾 An audit trail for exchanges in store and online. A UK retailer selling in-store and online, both through Shopify, says it struggles to keep a proper accounting audit trail for returns and exchanges. They asked Reddit how other merchants keep refunds and swaps reconciled across both channels. If your bookkeeper keeps flagging exchanges, the exchanges and refunds question is worth watching. | |
