Hello there. Friday starts with a time saver: Shopify can now write and maintain your store policies for you, and it announced two new AI connectors. Further down, a Grow merchant is fighting hundreds of bot-made abandoned checkouts, and a seller whose 120-day hold has ended still cannot move the money out of Balance.

In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into:

  • Return, shipping, contact, terms of service and legal notice policies can now be generated automatically and stay in sync as your store settings change.
  • A merchant on Shopify Grow says bots keep creating abandoned checkouts and junk customer profiles despite hCaptcha, and the community suggests checkout validation rules.
  • A seller whose Shopify Payments account was closed says the Transfer Funds button in Balance stays disabled after the promised 120-day release date.

📜 Shopify can now write and update your store policies. Shopify's changelog says you can now automate your store policies: return and refund, contact information, terms of service, shipping and legal notice. Automated policies update as your store settings change and follow Shopify's recommendations, which helps when launching or adding new markets. You stay responsible for compliance. Turn it on under Settings, Policies, pick a policy, enable Use automated policy and save.

🔗 Two new AI connectors for your store. Shopify announced two new connectors on X. One links your store to Grok so you can ask questions about your business, and the other links it to Grok Bot to build a team of agents that help you run it. Shopify's post does not list pricing or plan limits, so read the connector details before you switch either one on.

MONEY & OPS

🔒 Funds still stuck in Balance after a 120-day hold. A merchant whose Shopify Payments account was disabled says Shopify promised to release held funds after Sep 24, at the end of a 120-day chargeback window. The money is still locked: the Transfer Funds button in Shopify Balance is greyed out, and repeated escalations to the Merchant Trust team, which has no phone support, have not moved it. They ask what worked for others.

💳 What happens when a pre-order balance will not charge? A developer who builds deposit tools found on a test store that a card needing 3-D Secure on every payment was refused each time the remaining balance was charged later, because the buyer was not there to approve it. Three retries failed, and only a payment link got the money in. They ask merchants who take deposits how often this happens and how they collect.

🚗 Keeping DoorDash orders profitable. A cider maker considering local delivery through DoorDash wants to know whether DoorDash fees can be passed on to the customer or whether they would need higher prices on that channel. Raising prices looks like a headache, since it may mean a separate catalog or duplicate products enabled only for DoorDash. Merchants who have connected DoorDash to Shopify are asked to share their setup.

SELL & CONVERT

🤖 Bots are flooding one store with abandoned checkouts. A merchant on Shopify Grow says hundreds of bot-made abandoned checkouts keep hitting a $5 sample and leave junk customer profiles, despite hCaptcha and an order-risk workflow. Support suggested requiring sign-in or limiting small orders, which they reject. Replies suggest logging the pattern for one escalation, a checkout validation function to block things like disposable email domains, and tagging junk profiles for bulk cleanup.

💬 Is anyone getting sales from ChatGPT Ads? With an official Shopify app now available for ChatGPT Ads, one merchant notes that nobody seems to share real results. What they have heard is that clicks are pricey and click-through rates are weak, though people seeing the ads are actively asking what to buy. They ask anyone who has tried it what they sell, what they paid per click and whether it made money.

STORE & TOOLS

🧹 Do uninstalled apps leave code in your theme? A Reddit thread asks whether uninstalling an app always removes its theme code. Newer apps built on theme app extensions are generally easier to remove, but older apps that edited theme files may leave snippets or scripts behind. The poster wants to know whether checking the code after an uninstall is still worth doing, especially on older themes.

🎛️ App builders ask for per-shop event triggers. A developer running one app for many merchants asks Shopify for per-shop triggers on Next Gen Events. Today triggers such as customer.firstName are set once in shopify.app.toml and apply to every shop, so each merchant gets changes it does not need. Support confirmed there is no supported way to scope them per shop and no public roadmap, so the request proposes an Admin API mutation.

📧 A new email app also alerts your own team. The makers of EmailOS introduced their automated email app in the community. It runs welcome, cart and browse recovery, post-purchase and win-back flows with segments and filters, and any step can email an internal address instead, for purchase orders, backorders or dropship follow-ups. There is a free plan, and paid plans are a fixed $49 or $99 a month.
