The Shopifist

Hey there, good morning. Bot checkouts are poisoning abandon-cart email, a wrong delivery address is heading for a chargeback fight, and Shopify's redesigned admin is quietly landing on more stores. Coffee first - then clean the inbox and the gallery.

In today’s newsletter, we’ll get into:

  • Fake bot carts that fire Shopify and Klaviyo abandon emails can trash your sender reputation - purge the junk contacts before you scale ads.
  • If a buyer typed the wrong address and still chargebacks, ship-to-checkout evidence plus any admission they mistyped is your best defense pack.
  • The refreshed Shopify admin is rolling out: search and notifications move into a collapsible sidebar, and Sidekick floats on every page.

SELL & CONVERT

🤖 Bot checkouts are wrecking abandon-cart deliverability. A merchant on r/shopify spent ages blocking fake checkouts, then noticed quieter damage: every bot cart still fired Shopify and Klaviyo abandon emails. Junk sends train inbox providers to dump real mail. Scrub the fake customers from Shopify and Klaviyo before you pour more ad spend into lists that already smell like spam. Treat deliverability as part of bot defense, not a separate chore.

📬 Someone is stuffing your customers' emails into other stores' carts. A shopper reported 5 to 10 abandon-cart emails a day after strangers entered their address at random Shopify checkouts. Helpers flagged subscription bombing, and reminded merchants you can limit who gets those messages in abandoned checkout settings. Tighten who receives them so card-testing noise does not burn people who never meant to shop with you. Victims have no global Shopify opt-out.

🎨 Tapping a color should change the photo - audit your top 10. Community merchants keep finding the same free conversion leak: shoppers tap Sage and the gallery still shows black, because the image was only set on Small. Set a photo on every variant, hide other variants' media if your theme allows, then test on your phone. Walk your top ten products and tap every color - on most stores at least one fails.

📦 Put ship-by and returns above Add to Cart, not in the footer. A quiet tip from the same "small change" thread: most stores bury shipping times and returns in tabs or footer text, then wonder why mobile browsers stall. Moving a short line like "Ships in 2 business days, 30-day returns" directly above Add to Cart kills hesitation without a redesign. Trade a little page space for clarity where the buy decision actually happens. It is boring ops theater - and it converts.

🛒 18 checkouts and 2 purchases is a funnel clue, not a mystery bug. One merchant saw 30 carts, 18 checkouts, and only 2 buys with no broken buttons or surprise fees - after a prior batch of 50 carts for one purchase. Replies asked for shipping cost versus product price and ad context before guessing. Split mobile versus desktop through product view, cart, and checkout before you scale spend. High intent with a dead finish usually means price shock or payment friction.

MONEY & OPS

🔁 The first order validates the ad. The second validates the business. A food D2C operator on r/shopify_growth put it cleanly: first orders often just repay acquisition after COGS, shipping, fees, discounts, and returns. The second order is where you stop buying trust from zero. Weak repeat on consumables can hide behind louder creatives and bigger discounts. Track repeat by first product and by source, not one store-wide vanity number, and pick a 30, 60, or 90-day window that fits your category.

🧾 Wrong address, delivered as typed - build the chargeback pack now. An Australian merchant shipped to the exact checkout address, with tracking, delivery photos, and Australia Post confirmation - and the buyer still wants a refund under chargeback threat. Issuers often call it item not received, so prove you delivered as agreed. Include the order address screenshot, carrier proof, and any mistype admission. Write a short factual cover note - wins are never guaranteed, but soft evidence loses faster.

🏦 Swedish Lunar Business can fit Shopify Payments - check the IBAN first. A new Swedish AB asked whether Lunar Business SEK can receive Shopify Payments payouts. Guidance: Shopify wants a Sweden-based SEK account eligible for SEPA, IBAN starting with SE, and it rejects savings, wire-only, multi-currency flex accounts, and money-transfer lookalikes. On paper Lunar qualifies as a licensed bank. Confirm SEPA credit transfers in writing and let the first payout prove it.

STORE & TOOLS

🖼️ Missing colorway photos? One on-model shot is now a common shortcut. Apparel stores often photograph one or two colors and leave the rest as flat lays that never swap when shoppers change swatches. Acuarela, a new Shopify app from Adwaizer, pitches rendering every color variant from a single on-model photo so the gallery actually updates. It is brand-new and hunting merchant feedback, so treat it as a test - read the showcase thread if unshot colorways are killing mobile conversion on your bestsellers.

SHIPPED

🖥️ The redesigned Shopify admin is rolling out - no setup required. Shopify is gradually giving every merchant new colors, type, and icons. Store picker, search, and notifications move into a collapsible side nav, and Sidekick floats as a chat that expands for longer work. Daily Sidekick sessions are up 4.8x from 2025 to 2026. Staff will need a few minutes to relearn where search lives. Click around in a quiet hour before peak week so the new layout does not surprise you on a live sales day.
